How does it work?
HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The HypnoBirthing® concept is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, a British obstetrician, who first forwarded the concept of natural birthing in the 1920s. The method teaches you that in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labour.

You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony - as they were designed to - when your body is sufficiently relaxed. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural childbirth instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birth.
When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or a movie or staring into a fire.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration - a state of mind and body in which we communicate suggestions to our subconscious mind. This part of our mind influences what we think, how we feel and the choices we make. It can actually control pain.

There is no magic to achieving success with self-hypnosis. Almost anyone who chooses to can reach deep relaxation and redirected focus.
When having your baby with HypnoBirthing®, what you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or staring at a fire. You will be conversant and in good spirits, totally relaxed, but fully in control. You will be aware of your body's contractions but will be able to determine the extent to which you feel the surge. You will experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, without fear and tension that cause pain. Your body's natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain.

Throughout the United States, in the Virgin Islands, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, trained childbirth educators are successfully teaching women and their birthing companions relaxation techniques that eliminate the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome and result in a painless childbirth, often a painfree childbirth.
